Exhibition open at Quare on Friday 1 April – Sun 3 April 12:00 – 6:00pm
Art raffle and live events – Sunday 3 April 12:00 – 6:00pm

Come, enjoy and celebrate all things Japanese and not-so-Japanese alike! In order to lend a small hand to those who have been affected by the 11 March earthquake in Japan, The Ladies of the Press* (Ana Čavić & Renée O’Drobinak), Tomoko Aoki and Jonathan Velardi, along with a number of Guest Artitsts (final list available at http://www.quare.org.uk) will be hosting a hands-on charity arts night packed with a ?20 art raffle, original hand-printed eco bags, a live press desk making and printing zines on site and a lot of red balloons! Artists, onlookers and friends will all be invited to join in, and even contribute some impromptu artwork.

This show is inspired by one woman’s battle: In southern Miyagi prefecture, near the border to Fukushima, Renée O’Drobinak’s grandmother survived the earthquake and tsunami, with her house miraculously intact despite half the village being destroyed. While providing a temporary shelter for other family members, she has been hanging in there with no water, electricity, gas, and a very limited supply of food, though, the few times worried phonecalls from family in Tokyo reached her, she had wryly mentioned that her nose was a bit sniffly.
All proceeds will be donated to the Japan relief effort via the Red Cross.

This is the last few bags I made at home.

I learned this old Japanese stamp technique from school back in Japan – Just like potato stamps that Ladies of The Press* had done at their live press but, this time it’s permanent and no starch

First, Buy 6 erasers and put all together flat like that.

To hold 6 erasers, ideally you staple together but I just taped them with gaffa tapes.

Cut into the rubber directly (but wording has to be in mirror) then get your stamp ink and start stamping!

Easy work!

End result:

Sorry for the bad quality photo, flashed it some reason and it did bring up the colour very bright!

It will be on sale on Thursday 31st March to Sunday 3rd April 2011 at the event and also Quare gallery.

These bags are limited and hand made by me! So treat as artworks, as you like or get it hands on and use it everyday!

This is a long weekend event, with more events happening on Sunday 3 April – so if not Thursday night, why not pop by on your way to Spitalfields Market?

All my tears and sweats are filed into these books.

Well, 96 pages, this is almost like a book…

Visiting to New York part 5

Walking around the meat packing district area, quite closed to the port, there are many designer shops moved down here from SoHo. Although the area still gave a sense of factories or storages, there were full of Yankees and tourists wondering about. Last 3 years this area completely changed.

I was happened to walk pass a show: Icons Remix, The show by Mr. Brainwash.

Entrance was drawn with graffiti style of huge images on the glass shutters.

There were I’d say, very wild and fresh contemporary works with lots of iconic celebrities on the canvas. One on the picture is probably Madonna…

Pink paint splashed everywhere. It was seemed as if ruined. I liked the idea of breaking the professionalism though dynamic action.

Visiting to New York part 4

Saturday Lunch at August ,West Village. Ice coffee after some morning walk was totally refreshing! You’d never get one in London!

My beautiful french toast with maple syrup. It was so nice and filling. The restaurant was packed although it was 11am on Saturday. My friend booked a table for me at the back of backyard garden.

I had a melon ice cream at GROM. It was very refreshing! My friend bought green tea flavour gelato. It was also nice and soft.

On Houston Street, there was a small fair opens every weekend. The furnitures were really nice and cheap!

It was such a hot day.
